Septic tank installation is best carried out by a trained professional septic system installer, however many homeowners choose to take on this work themselves as a way of saving money. If you do decide to go down the DIY route, make sure that your chosen tank manufacturer provides you with a detailed manual which gives step-by-step instructions on how to install their system. This should include health and safety advice, which is important to follow at all times throughout the process.

Common Mistakes to Avoid in Septic Tank Installation | Martins Pumping Service LLC

The first stage of the installation process is to have a site survey and soil test done. This helps establish how much space you have available, any geographical features on the site, and how well the soil absorbs fluid. These factors will help determine which type of septic tank to use, as well as what size of tank you require.

Excavation will then be carried out to prepare the site for the installation of your septic tank. This will involve digging a hole large enough to accommodate the tank, as well as any other work needed around it. This includes sloping and grading the site correctly.

A concrete or plastic septic tank will then be installed in the hole. Once the tank is in place, the drainage field will be laid to carry waste into and out of the tank. Backfill will then be added to the excavation site in 4-6-inch layers and compacted to prevent future settling of the ground.
