Busy Bee Septic – What is Septic Tank Pumping?

When your septic tank is pumped, a septic worker uses a giant hose to suck up the liquid and sludge from the bottom of the tank. Busy Bee Septic and Excavating LLC will prevent the sludge from getting into your drain field and causing bigger issues in the future. It is recommended to have your septic tank pumped every 1-3 years.

If you are getting ready to have your septic tank pumped, it is a good idea to clear a path for the pumper hose. This will make the process quicker and easier for you both. Depending on how full your tank is, it can take 30-60 minutes to get it completely pumped out. The pumper will also use a muckrake to stir the water, scum and sludge levels in the tank so that they are all mixed up and removed.

Emergency Septic Tank Pumping? Busy Bee Septic Has You Covered

Your septic tank develops three important layers: the scum layer, the all-important water (or effluent) layer, and the sludge layer. As waste enters the tank it gets pushed into the water layer where it is broken down by bacteria. The sludge and scum waste naturally separate as it moves through the system to prevent clogging of your drain field and pipes.

As time passes, your septic tank can reach its capacity and this is one of the leading causes of septic system failure. When your tank reaches its maximum capacity, you will notice that your sinks, tubs, and showers drain slower than usual. This is a clear sign that your septic tank needs to be pumped.
